Product Review: AquaZinger

The Ranting Chef does not get paid or receive any revenue from manufactures or retailers of products reviewed. I occasionally receive products that I am asked to use and see what I think. I take a look, try them out and tell you all about them.

What could be in this box addressed to The Ranting Chef?

It was an Aqua Zinger from Zing Anything.

There are a lot, I mean A LOT, of water bottles out there. You would think that there really could not be any new innovation with it. You’d be wrong.

Before getting to the innovation, the Aqua Zinger has what you need from a water bottle. The top comes off. It is dishwasher safe. The built-in straw folds down which locks in the beverage and keeps it from spilling.

Here is what makes the Aqua Zinger special. The base comes off into two pieces. The piece on the left is a screen with four pieces of metal. The one on the right is the bottom with additional metal pieces. When the screen is placed on top of the base the metal pieces can rotate around each other without touching. The effect is one of a blender that crushes more than cuts.

Fill the bottom with any number of ingredients. Using one of the recommendations that comes with the Aqua Zinger, I put in one supreme (section) of a lemon and a few pieces of cucumber. The screen then was placed on top.

The base then attaches to the bottle and you fill it with water. The water permeates the screen and picks up the flavor of the ingredients.

Here is the real innovation. By twisting the base, the metal pieces turn and crush the ingredients, releasing even more flavor. This additional flavor permeates the water as well. For softer ingredients like the ones I used here (versus something like an apple), you can start to taste the flavor right away, but it is still best to let it rest for an hour or more. For harder ingredients, you should let it soak up the flavor overnight. The lemon and cucumber, which I wouldn’t have thought to put together was great. The refreshingly cool cucumber and the zing of the lemon work well.

My second batch was one orange supreme (section), a strawberry and three blackberries (also a recipe that came with the Aqua Zinger). This was also flavorful.

My Take: We all should be drinking more water. Why don’t we? Often it is because there are so many other drinks that have a flavor that keeps it interesting. Water? Not so much. The Aqua Zinger is truly an innovation over the typical water bottle and helps you add some great flavor to water. You get to use fresh, healthy ingredients and as your possible ingredients are endless, you won’t get tired of the flavor. Put it together before work, or even better the night before, and when you are ready for something other than coffee, you have a healthy, refreshing drink. The Aqua Zinger makes a great stocking stuffer. Check it out.

Thanks for the great review of the aqua zinger. I have a question, besides making croutons out stay bread which I used for stuffing dressing, what can I do with cubes of hard bread? Maybe some kind of bread pudding? Please give me some ideas. Love your blog, because not only does it have terrrific ideas and recipes, but also diet ones. Pat Miodonski (rmiodonski@aol.com)
