Product Review: Peugeot Zest Mill

The Ranting Chef does not get paid or receive any revenue from manufactures or retailers of products reviewed. I occasionally receive products that I am asked to use and see what I think. I take a look, try them out and tell you all about them.

Exciting news, I have a new Peugeot!

Well, not one of their automobiles, but exciting still the same.

Peugeot, in addition to their famous line of vehicles, has long been known for their design and manufacturer of mills. In fact, for 175 years, they have been making spice and other mills. This year, they introduced their Zest line of pepper and salt mills.

This electric mill comes with batteries and a small package of peppercorns. So it is just about ready out of the box. It comes in Lagoon (blue), Lime (green) and Black (um….black).

A simple twist and it is open to be filled. My peppercorns are in.

The Zest is very light and easy to carry and control with this top loop. It is important for an electric mill to work well one handed to use in cooking.

The loop also protects the button. Time to put it to use.

The button does not require much pressure. In fact, Peugeot calls it a soft touch. The grinding mechanism is adjustable to allow from fine to coarse and anywhere in-between. The double helix row of teeth first cracks the peppercorn and then grinds it to give you the most flavor from the peppercorn.

You can see the fresh cracked pepper on this goulash.

My Take: Fresh herbs and spices are so much more flavorful than the old, dried out powders you find in the spice aisle. This is also true of freshly cracked pepper (and to the same but lesser degree, salt) versus the previously ground stuff. A good pepper mill will bring out what pepper is really supposed to taste like, with just the proper amount of bite. When I cook, I use pepper in many of my dishes. Having an electric mill that grinds with the touch of a button makes using freshly cracked pepper a breeze. The Peugeot Zest mill is a great addition to your kitchen and to your table. Take a look at it here.
