Product Review: Primula Cold Brew Iced Coffee Maker

The Ranting Chef does not get paid or receive any revenue from manufactures or retailers of products reviewed. I occasionally receive products that I am asked to use and see what I think. I take a look, try them out and tell you all about them.

I received a box from Primula. Having reviewed their Flavor It beverage system, I was excited to see what they had sent.

Inside was their Cold Brew Iced Coffee Maker.

This 50 oz glass carafe has a center filter where you put ground coffee.

Fill the carafe with water and place into the fridge. 12 to 24 hours later the iced coffee concentrate is ready to use.

This concentrate is strong, so when you dilute with milk, cream, water or ice, if will have the right flavor to it and not some weakened version.

The coffee tastes great and has no trace of bitterness.

To clean it up, you unscrew the bottom of the filter and rinse it out.

Easy peasy.

My Take: I love iced coffee but hate to purchase it. Why? They charge you an arm and leg for a cup that is as much ice as anything, so you actually pay more for it than a cup of coffee and you get less of it. I’ve tried to make it in the past but it is always a pain. You have hot coffee that you have to cool down or if you jus tour over ice, you get really diluted stuff. I needed a better way.

Primula to the rescue! The 50 oz Cold Brew Iced Coffee Maker is a great solution. The glass maker creates enough iced coffee concentrate in less than a day so that you get quite a bit for your time. It is good for two weeks so you can make it last and last. Finally, it just tastes good. The coffee is smooth and flavorful. Primula includes a stirring paddle to make more advanced iced drinks if you prefer, but the iced coffee is excellent by itself.  Purchase at major retailers like Bed, Bath and Beyond or online here.

Good to know! Some of the best Cold Brew I’ve had recently is (gasp i hate to admit) Starbucks. Deliciously done, both of you 🙂

My mother would serve iced coffee to us on special occasions. She put other things in her brew, and then added ice cream. It was quite good, but too rich to drink, and eat every day. We loved her rendition. I won’t say what was in it, because the recipe is so good.

Now machines try to make iced coffee. That means someone has been looking in the past, to find what kept people happy in the summer time. I know some drink beer, or wine, but we had iced coffee. There is no alcohol in this, but it is wonderful, and delicious.

My daughter made ice coffee the other day in a mason jar and then strained out the grounds after 12 hours in the fridge. It was delicious. She also suggested that a coffee press would do the same thing, so if you already own one of those there’s no need to purchase another gadget.
