Good and Evil

There is both good and evil in this world.

An example of good: About 10 years ago, Krispy Kreme opened a location about 1.5 miles from my house. If you have been there, you know how wonderful they are. The key is to get their original glazed doughnuts right as they are made. Warm. Soft. Sugary. Oh My God are they good. When they are making these pillows of delight, there is a big neon sign in their window that is lit up stating “Hot Doughnuts”. If you go inside, and are nice, they will give you one for free.

An example of evil: Krispy Kreme has an app. That app will tell me every time that Hot Doughnut light is on. Every time. Several times a day. Every time. For someone who is really trying to lose a little weight (well, a lot), this is waaaaaay too tempting.

This kind of glaze is equally tempting and so delicious as well.

I purchased beef strips to make this so much easier.

Orange Glazed Beef

Ingredients:

2 tbsp whole wheat flour
4 tbsp brown sugar,divided
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
2 lb beef sirloin, cut into strips
1/2 cup orange juice
6 tbsp balsamic vinegar
4 tbsp capers
2 tbsp olive oil

Directions:

On a dinner plate, combine the flour, half the sugar, salt, and pepper, cumin and cayenne. Mix well and dredge beef in it.

In a small bowl, combine the remaining sugar, orange juice, vinegar, and capers. Stir well and make sure the sugar is completely dissolved.

In a skillet over medium high heat, heat the olive oil. Add the beef strips, cooking about 2 minutes on each side. You want them nicely browned. Keep turning till well browned all over.

Add the vinegar mixture to the skillet with the beef, mixing well. Cook another minute until sauce thickens up, then serve.
